LIVE BOTANICAL - Sanctuary Barrier Balm

A rich yet breathable balm free from essential oils, designed to help lock in moisture. This nourishing blend combines nutrient-dense raw butters, oils, and raw beeswax with plant sterols and phospholipids, working together to support dry, sensitive skin.

What makes this balm unique is its use of unrefined, oil-based phospholipids. These molecules attract and retain water while forming a structure similar to skin’s natural barrier. When applied over a humectant layer, they help create a comfortable layer of hydration.

This formula helps improve the feel of skin and can be layered for long-lasting moisture throughout the day.

Scent: Natural and earthy with nutty, sweet notes. No added essential oils.

Skin Types: Dry and sensitive skin, including skin with barrier disruption.

Texture: Soft, creamy balm that melts on contact with the skin.

Note: Plant butters have a low melting point and can soften in hot weather during transit. The balm may change from a whipped, soft yellow texture to a firmer, dark orange texture due to air deflation. This does not affect the product’s use or quality.

Botanical Profile:

Amazonian butters such as cupuaçu, tucuma, ucuuba, and bacuri are rich in nourishing compounds that help soften and smooth skin, supporting hydration and comfort.

Buriti, bacaba, and graviola oils provide antioxidants that help protect the skin’s appearance from environmental factors.

Jojoba wax, which contains ceramides, and pomegranate sterols help maintain skin’s hydration and softness.

The Amazonian ingredients used were all harvested by small, independent co-ops that help prevent rainforest clear-cutting. The fruit/nut trees harvested provide important monetary opportunities to local communities vs. using the trees for lumber or cleared to graze livestock. At Live Botanical they focus mainly on regional ingredients but feel in small volumes this was a beneficial way to support Indigenous groups. Live Botanical also donate $2 per full-size balm sold for preservation efforts in addition to their normal donations relating to environmental and social causes.

How to Use: Apply as the final layer in your skincare routine. For best results, ensure the skin is damp/hydrated to improve moisture function. It can also be used as a restorative night mask by applying a thicker layer, allowing a slow absorption while you sleep.

During warmer months or when not as dry, mix in your palm with a hydrating serum to create a day cream for a lighter application.

We find this best paired with the Ambient Moisture Liquid for increased hydration.
