BERLIN SKIN - Gua Sha Tool

Gua sha is a traditional practice that has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese culture. Crafted from black obsidian, this tool is designed for a soothing self-care ritual, helping to smooth and refresh the look of skin. Follow the included guide for a gentle and effective application, using slow, light strokes for the best experience.

Getting Started: Repeat each stroke 3-5 times.

  1. Begin your gua sha routine by preparing the skin with light, upward strokes. Using the groove end of the tool, start at the base of the back of your neck, keeping your spine centered within the groove. Glide upwards toward the base of your skull. Next, use the textured side of the tool, gently sweeping upwards from the collarbone toward the chin. Repeat on both sides, applying minimal pressure. When working over the middle of the throat, use the groove end and glide in an upward motion with a delicate touch.
  2. From the base of your neck, use the textured side of the gua sha tool to guide upward strokes toward your chin, maintaining light pressure at a 30-45 degree angle. Repeat on all sides of your neck, including the back, which can tolerate slightly firmer pressure.
  3. Starting at the base of your chin, take the small, flat edge of the tool and sweep it upward and outward toward the center of your ear.
  4. The smaller edges and grooves of the tool allow for precise movements around the under-eye area, cheeks, forehead, and jawline.
  5. Once you've completed your strokes, start at the center of your forehead with the textured side of the tool and glide outward, gradually working your way down the face to the base of the neck.
  6. Finish by using the textured side of the gua sha tool to sweep from the chin down to the collarbone.

Extended Usage & Technique

Enhance Definition: Glide the small, flat side of the gua sha tool along areas like the jawline, cheeks, and forehead. Keeping a light yet steady pressure at a 30-45 degree angle helps refine the appearance of these features.

Smooth & Refresh: Anchor 2-3 fingers at the base of your chin while using the textured side of the tool to sweep upward and outward across the cheeks, stopping near the center of the ear. This technique can also be applied to the neck and forehead for a refreshed look.

Precision Work: The groove of the gua sha tool can be used to glide along areas like the under-eye, brow bone, and cheekbones for a more sculpted appearance. Use gentle, sweeping motions while keeping light pressure.

Bonus Tips:

  • Applying a generous amount of Berlin Skin Prickly Pear Face Oil or Black Spruce Body Oil beforehand will allow the tool to glide effortlessly over the skin.
  • Keeping a consistent 30-45 degree angle and gentle yet firm pressure in every movement enhances the experience.
