Formulated with 20% non-nanoparticle, uncoated zinc oxide seamlessly suspended in opulent oils, pure plant pigments, and nourishing essences, our ELS Zinc Beach Balm offers a sylvan retreat for the skin.

Is this an SPF or Sunscreen? It is not.

What is Zinc Oxide and what is Zinc’s Mechanism of Action? Zinc Oxide Primarily Deflects, Not Absorbs. Zinc oxide mainly works by reflecting and scattering sunlight, acting as a physical barrier, deflecting the sun's rays away from the skin.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a white, inorganic compound derived from metallic zinc. At Living Libations they use non-nanoparticle, uncoated, pharmaceutical-grade zinc oxide in ELS with Zinc, as it is the purest form of zinc available. Unlike nanoparticle minerals and chemical sun blocks, zinc oxide does not interfere with the skin's or respiration. The molecular size of zinc particles are too large to to penetrate and be absorbed by the skin’s outer layer (the stratum corneum).

Does the Zinc Oxide give skin a white sheen? Yes it can. Even with the addition of botanical pigments, the zinc in Everybody Loves the Sunshine Zinc Lotion will give skin from the palest to the darkest tones a white sheen. However, many clients with a full range of skin tones embrace the white protection of zinc. And many women use ELS with Zinc as a sheer, tinted moisturizer. If you are not fond of the sheen or find it tricky to work with, you can minimize it by placing some of the product in the palm of your hand, rubbing your hands together, and then applying it to the face and body. If this is still unsuitable, you can also add some tint with a bit of makeup pigment that matches your skin tone.

Are there other sun care options (with Living Libations products)? Yes. You can always use Everybody Loves Sunshine (without zinc), wear a hat, or use light clothing for some portable shade.

How to Use: Apply a generous amount to exposed skin and reapply every couple of hours. Reapplication frequency will vary based on individual skin type, water activities, sweat, and geographical location.
